This past weekend, the Richmond pool community held a memorial tournament for Phil Thompson who passed away last month.  Phil was a long-time member of the American Poolplayer Association (APA) league.  In addition to playing in the APA, Phil also was a league division representative and a referee for APA tournaments.

To honor his memory, and raise some funds for his family, Ray Walters and Lindsey Thompson held the tournament at the Side Pocket.  As you can tell from the photo above, the turn-out was great! (At the end of the post, there is a link to a free printable download of the photo.)

The photo above is from a memorial tournament for James Lucy who passed away in January 2011. (This photo is also available for download at the end of this post.)   The past year was a tough one for the pool community.  Several of our poolplayer friends passed away last year.  From James to Phil, and even one of my APA teammates, Bill Garter.  For a list of the APA players that passed away, here is summary from the APA site.  Also, in the BCA league, Tom Pitts passed away last year.

RIP to all our pool friends.  May your aim be true!
